Military combat knives are sold by Contact Left Limited on our website only, all purchases need to be made by someone who is over the age of 18.

Although Contact Left sell a range of knives that are used for hunting and outdoor recreation a Military combat knife is designed for hand to hand fighting or if you are close up combat fighting. It would normally only be used if you have run out of ammunition. For this spiel we will include bayonets as a combat knife.

The Fairbairn-Sykes fighting knife is our most popular knife. During the Second World War the Fairburn-Sykes fighting knife became the blade of choice and the symbol of the British Commandos. The fighting knife often mistakenly named a Commando dagger is probably the most famous of all military edged weapons.

The fighting knife was designed by Capt Eric Anthony Sykes and Capt William Ewart Fairburn. Both had served in Shangai in the Police and were experts in knife fighting. Both men became close combat instructors at the Commando Training Centre (CTC) at Achnacarry.

Both Fairburn and Sykes designed the Commando fighting knife as a knife that could be attached virtually anywhere and was easily accessible. Between them they taught various methods of using it to kill including attacks on the radial, brachial, subclavian arteries and also it has been reported that they favoured a thrust to the carotid when dealing with a sentry as this will result in loss of consciousness in about 5 seconds and death soon after. Commandos need to be well trained in the art of knife fighting to apply these skills in war, both Fairburn and Sykes were excellent instructors.

It is not as simple as getting up and just jabbing at someone with a knife to be become competent with either a dagger style knife or a bayonet.

This British military give the aim of Bayonet fitting as “To teach how to attack and kill the enemy with the bayonet and methods of self-defence” and goes on to direct the instructor to explain to the soldier that “Speed, balance and good footwork will defeat the enemy”, this is with a bayonet attached to the rifle of course.

This type of training is only available in the military in the UK and there is no reason why anyone outside the military would need to highly trained in the use of a bayonet.  It is also unlikely that you would need to know how to defend yourself against a bayonet attack on civi street. Defending yourself against a military combat knife can be expected though.

These statistics, obtained after a Freedom of Information request, reveal that there were 1,038 victims of knife crime in London in January 2013, 410 were injured and four killed. The remainder were threatened with knives. Looking at these statistics there is argument to say that military combat knives should not be sold however we sell them to such a wide range of customers including military personnel and those working abroad and the general thoughts is that if someone is going to attack you with a knife they can get one from a local hardware store.

If you live in a dangerous area or come up against a knife you need to be trained on how to defend yourself with and without a knife.
